ABREX ABRASION
The ABREX abrasion, originally designed for cell phone industry, is now used for all electrical and electronic equipments (buttons, switches, controls …) whose prints could be erased under a repeated action of fingers and other hand parts. The ABREX test device, unlike Crockmeter for example, allows determining the resistance of printings and markings on curved surfaces or parts. Accelerated wear is produced by the friction of the ABREX artificial finger through a normalized fabric, dry or wet with a fluid, fabric which is itself in contact with the tested specimen. The applied force and the number of impacts or of cycles depend from the product specification. This ABREX device is in compliance with : NF-EN60068-2-70 (NF EN 60068-2-70) or IEC 68-2-70 (IEC 68-2-70) Environmental testing – Part 2-70: Tests – Test Xb: Abrasion of markings and letterings caused by rubbing of fingers and hands, Daimler DBL 7384 §5.11., Ford WSS M2P188-A1 §3.10 (BN155-01), BMW GS 97034 (BMW AA-P296), PSA D245020 (D24 5020)…

Martindale abrasion
Circular test samples are rubbed using a standard abrasive material with a specified pressure applied. The motion of the rubber follows a cyclical planar pattern called a Lissajous figure (the resultant of two simple harmonic movements, perpendicular to each other). The resistance to abrasion is estimated based on the number of cycles to failure, on the loss of mass of the test samples, or, for a fabric, on the piling tendency. SERCOVAM has two of these instruments, which ensure compliance with the international standards (EN ISO 12947, EN ISO 12945) and with the specific test methods developed by car manufactuers (RENAULT, PSA, VOLVO, etc.).
